Stefano Levialdi Ghiron
Full Professor - Dipartimento di Informatica "La Sapienza"
Stefano Levialdi was born in Rome (November 6, 1936) and obtained a degree in Telecommunications Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1959.
He won a scholarship at Marconi Wireless (Chelmsford, UK) in 1960, and was next appointed as a lecturer in Electronics at the University of Genoa, Italy, in 1961. After working for the Italian National Council for Research (CNR) for 13 years he became Full Professor of Computer Science in 1981 at the University of Bari moving to Rome University, 'La Sapienza' in 1983. He has taught Electronics, Computer Programming, Computer Arquitectures, Image Processing and, presently, two courses on Human-Computer Interaction.
He became IEEE Fellow in 1988 and Life Fellow in 1998. He is actively engaged in the organization of scientific meetings (IEEE Visual Language and Human-Centric Computing) and ACM Advanced Visual Interfaces Working Conferences) since 1979. He is now General Chairman of the IEEE Symposia on Human-Centric Computing to be held in Rome on September, 2004 VL/HCC 04.
He is also General Chairman of the IFIPS International Conference Interact 05 (also in Rome next year) see Interact 05.
S. Levialdi has travelled widely in practically all European countries and has strong links with Universities from United States, Japan, Costa Rica, Cuba, Argentina and also with European ones.
